lrsHundreds of inactive people in Leicestershire and Leicester are to benefit from a new project, which has received Sport England funding.

£439,000 of National Lottery funding has been awarded to Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, working alongside the Public Health teams in the City and County.

The innovative scheme aims to identify inactive people and provide opportunities for them to get involved in sport, with mentor and group support helping people to remain involved and stay motivated.

The initiative is one of 14 projects across England benefitting from £5.8 million of funding from Sport England’s Get Healthy Get Into Sport Fund.

Andy Reed, Chairman of Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to work together with colleagues in both the City and County Public Health teams to secure these resources. This project will provide insight into what works in relation to supporting people to change their behaviour.”
